Search Engine Friendliness
The truth about Search Engine Optimization is that there really are no "tricks" you can play to get ranked higher in the search engines. The biggest contributors to your search engine ranking is the quality of your content, and the quality of the sites that link to you.
Nevertheless, Grayscale CMS helps you whenever it can. Unlike other content management systems, Grayscale Content Management system does the following:
- Each page has a unique title, via the <title> element, which is weighed heavily by search engines.
- Each page title is also appended with text of your choice (during configuration) to allow for more keyword density in the title.
- Meta tags
- Keywords – though the more widely used search engines, such as Google and Yahoo do not pay any attention to meta keywords, some smaller engines still do. Each page has the ability to have its own keywords. If you don’t enter any keywords, the page will use your default keywords, set during configuration
- Description – unlike the meta keywords, this meta tag is still used by search engines when they display your page in their results. The meta description is unused for ranking, but a good way to help users know that your site is useful to them.
- Dublin Core Metadata – although not in wide use by the large search engines, Dublin Core Metadata can be very useful if you choose to use some of the many COTS search engines available that do use this type of metadata, such as Verity Ultraseek.
- Site Maps - Grayscale CMS automatically generates a sitemap, which is not only user-friendly, but also facilitates crawling by search engines.
- Google XML Sitemap - Grayscale CMS also auto generates a Google Sitemap XML file - "an easy way to tell Google about all the pages on your site, which pages are most important to you, and when those pages change, for a smarter crawl and fresher search results."
- Alexa XML Siteinfo file - similarly, Grayscale CMS generates an Alexa SiteInfo file.
- Search Engine Friendly URLs
