Is the International Community Procrastinating?
No matter who's side you're on in the recent clashes in the Middle East, one thing is beginning to seem clear: the international community is dragging its feet in calling for an end to the violence.
Ever since Israel began airstrikes in Lebanon last week, it has seemed like the rest of the world has been sitting by thinking, "They'll cool off any moment now". Well, it is almost a week later, and the conflict now involves ground troops and hundreds of civilians are dead.
This is clearly not the type of thing that is going to go away on its own, and it is time for the UN to step in to do exactly what it was created to do: Find a diplomatic solution to international problems.
