About the Pedigrees Module in Grayscale CMS

To the best of my knowledge NOBODY currently has a pedigree program that does the following things:

  1. Generates a single page displaying photos of the dog, info about the dog, and a 5 generation pedigree.
  2. Generates that information from a content management system
  3. Facilitates navigating between dogs in the pedigree

Sure, you can buy a pedigree from AKC. Sure, you can get a web page created from a service like SitStay.com. But in both instances, you CAN NOT generate that information from a database on YOUR site. You CAN NOT modify information in the page manually unless you go make a new one or edit the HTML the program created. Misspell one of your dog's names and all of a sudden you need a whole new pedigree? That's crazy talk!

The Pedigree you see on the Bella Dolce Mastini site is completely generated from information Shani entered into the content management system's Pedigree Module.

I picked this one as an example because it showcases all the features.

First, it demonstrates the fact that every dog is given its own web page which displays (from top-to-bottom), the dog's name, the parents, a "primary" picture & several thumbnails (which actually come from the photo gallery), a description, and 5 generation pedigree in the familiar table format.

I should break here and mention that everything is configurable, including how many pictures are shown as well as how many generations to show. I recommend showing 3 or 5, depending on the space constraints.

Anyway, back to the pedigree table. What we also see in the example is really the icing on the cake, if you ask me: the linking of dogs to one another. If you own the dog listed in the pedigree, that dog's name also becomes a link to its pegigree. So, using the example, because Bella Dolce Mastini owns "Ch Vanguards Iron Mike", his name becomes a link. Click on it, and you're taken to his pedigree! Theoretically speaking, we could create a complete genealogy of every single mastini to ever exist.

The other cool part is that if you need to change a dog's name, you don't have to fight with the hideous HTML generated by some program like SitStay, you just log into the CMS and change the name. The name is now changed everywhere it appears on the site without you needing to do anything.

This is only one of many kickass features contained in the content management system I created. For more information, go to www.grayscalecms.com
